Story

In North Dakota, Volt Lithium Corp. has signed a field study agreement with Wellspring Hydro to test its proprietary direct lithium extraction technology. The initiative is backed by an initial grant of $500,000 from the state and aims to enhance lithium production from the Bakken oilfield brine. North Dakota's Bakken formation is reported to produce approximately 2 million barrels of lithium-infused oilfield brine daily, making it the second-largest source for such material in the United States. The funding of up to an additional $2 million will be sought in early 2025 for equipment and further testing of the technology, potentially improving North America's access to critical minerals necessary for energy and manufacturing sectors. Alex Wylie, President & CEO of Volt, expressed excitement about the collaboration, indicating it could help in demonstrating the capabilities of Volt's technology in significant oil-producing regions. This move is part of a broader effort to secure critical mineral resources within the country.
