Russia Takes Control of Two Villages in Eastern Ukraine

Russian military forces have successfully captured the villages of Vovche and Prohres in Ukraine's Donetsk region, as reported by Ukraine's military. This development comes amid a sustained offensive by Russia, which aims to break through Ukrainian defenses in the area. The villages are located approximately 20 miles northwest of Avdiivka, a city that fell to Russian control earlier this year after intense fighting. Ukrainian officials attribute the recent setbacks to a combination of inadequate training, low morale among troops, and insufficient weaponry. In a counteraction, the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) targeted substations in Russia's Kursk region, resulting in significant power outages. This operation followed Russia's claims of intercepting a drone attack. The SBU's strikes reportedly affected multiple substations, leading to disruptions in the Ponyrovsky, Solntsevsky, and Kursky districts. Ukrainian officials confirmed that drone debris caused damage to a power plant, a bridge, and a power line in the region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the situation in Donetsk as "extremely challenging," highlighting the difficulties faced by Ukrainian forces.
