A delegation of Labour MPs and senior party officials is set to meet with US President Joe Biden on Monday night, following his keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The group, led by General Secretary David Evans and former MP Jonathan Ashworth, who now heads the think tank Labour Together, includes newly elected MPs Mike Tapp and Lucy Rigby. They were flown to the event by the Progressive Policy Institute (PPI), a US think tank. The meeting aims to facilitate discussions on campaign strategies that contributed to Labour's recent electoral success. A source familiar with the trip indicated that the delegation would also engage with high-level staff from Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign, sharing insights from Labour's historic victory in the General Election. The 18-member delegation includes Labour MP Siobhain McDonagh and senior staff from Labour HQ. In addition to their meeting with President Biden, Tapp and Rigby, along with Evans and Ashworth, are scheduled to speak at two events organized by PPI and the US news outlet Axios, focusing on "winning the working class." The Democratic National Convention features prominent speakers throughout the week, including Vice President Harris on Thursday, former President Barack Obama on Tuesday, and Bill Clinton on Wednesday, highlighting key themes for the upcoming election cycle.
