A water fountain in Bowes Lyon Place, Poundbury, Dorset, has been vandalised with washing-up liquid, resulting in a fountain filled with bubbles. This incident has raised questions about whether it was a prank or a protest against the fountain's neglected state, which is covered in green algae. Local residents have expressed their dissatisfaction with the fountain's appearance, stating it does not reflect the vision of a pristine community that King Charles aimed to create. Some residents have even offered to clean the fountain themselves, highlighting their concern for the area’s aesthetics. The Duchy of Cornwall, responsible for the fountain, has confirmed that there are no plans to clean it, as they prefer to let it take on a natural look. Jason Bowerman, the Duchy estate development manager, acknowledged the fountain's current unattractive state but urged residents to be patient, indicating that it is not designed to look pristine. He mentioned that the fountain is being monitored for safety, particularly regarding the lower steps, which may be cleaned if they become slippery. The fountain, erected in 2022, is one of three in Poundbury, with the others located in Longmoor Street and Victor Jackson Avenue.
