Wizz Air launches non-stop flights from UK to holy city Medina

In an important expansion of its operations, Wizz Air has announced the launch of daily non-stop flights from Gatwick Airport in the UK to Medina, Saudi Arabia, starting from August 1, 2025. This new route is significant as it marks the only direct connection between the UK and Medina, a city of great cultural and religious importance in the Islamic faith. Prior to this development, travelers flying to Medina had to rely on connecting flights, making this new service a compelling option for those seeking easier access to the city. The flights will be operated using the Airbus A321XLR, a modern aircraft designed for efficiency and comfort. With enhanced fuel capacity and a maximum range of nearly 11 hours, this model brings substantial improvements in fuel economy, burning approximately 30% less fuel per seat compared to older generation planes. Wizz Air has ordered a total of 47 of these aircraft, which are set to play a crucial role in expanding its network, particularly in connecting the UK with destinations in the Middle East. Marion Geoffroy, managing director of Wizz Air UK, emphasized the positive impact of the new Gatwick-Medina route for travelers, stating that it is an important milestone for the airline as they aim to increase their operational presence beyond Europe. The airline is committed to making air travel more accessible and affordable, and this new flight to Medina offers a direct and potentially cost-effective option for those wishing to visit the city. In addition to the Medina route, Wizz Air is also set to introduce its first flight between Gatwick and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, starting on March 31, 2025, which will become the airline's longest UK route. With nearly 100 routes already established across the Middle East, the introduction of these new non-stop flights showcases Wizz Air's ambition to strengthen its connections with the region, catering to the growing demand for travel between the UK and Saudi Arabia.
