In Antioch, Illinois, a 54-year-old man named Barry J. Hackleman was arrested on charges of theft after he allegedly stole a boat and attempted to sell its parts. The incident began when a victim reported the theft of his 1995 Regal Valanti boat, which was parked outside a business for winterization. Surveillance footage from nearby cameras helped deputies identify Hackleman, who was seen towing the stolen trailer with a white GMC pickup truck. The investigation escalated when a local marina reported a suspicious man trying to sell an outboard engine at a significantly reduced price. Upon reviewing the marina's surveillance, deputies recognized Hackleman and later found the stolen engine in his truck. Despite being questioned, Hackleman did not disclose the location of the stolen boat. The victim was able to recover the engine and other stolen items. Hackleman, already on pre-trial release for a separate battery charge, now faces two counts of theft, and the State's Attorney's Office is seeking to revoke his release. He was scheduled to appear in court the following morning.
