Teams from BBC Radio in Kent, Surrey, and Sussex are embarking on a fundraising swimming challenge this week. Starting on Monday, they aim to collectively cover a distance of 48 miles to support the national initiative, Children in Need, concluding the event on Friday. The Kent team will kick off their swims at The Weald Leisure Centre in Cranbrook, while the Sussex and Surrey teams will swim across their respective counties. Participants include Will Flockton from BBC Radio Sussex, who expressed excitement for the daily mile of swimming, and Sophia Atkins from BBC Radio Surrey, who feels both nervous and enthusiastic about the challenge. Notably, Adam Dowling from BBC Radio Kent is participating despite his inability to swim, taking swimming lessons for the first time in over three decades. This ambitious challenge is part of a wider effort by BBC radio stations across the UK to collectively swim 1,000 miles. The event has garnered support from former Team GB swimmers Rebecca Adlington and Mark Foster, emphasizing its significance for charity and community engagement.
