Fernando Tatis Jr. returns to Padres as playoff push intensifies

Fernando Tatis Jr. has made his return to the San Diego Padres after being sidelined for over two months due to a stress reaction in his right thighbone. He was activated on a Monday and was set to bat second in the opening game of a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers. Prior to his return, Tatis had not played since June 21 and was placed on the injured list on June 24, retroactive to June 22. During his recovery, he worked out at the team's spring training complex in Arizona. The Padres are currently in a tight race for the National League's top wild card spot, sharing a virtual tie with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Tatis expressed his excitement about returning, stating he feels capable of performing at a high level on the field. In a move to make room for Tatis on the roster, outfielder Bryce Johnson was optioned to Triple-A El Paso.
