Story

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals have announced the reinstatement of right-handed reliever John Schreiber from the injured list, coinciding with the team's series opener against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night. Schreiber, who has a record of 3-3 and a 4.13 ERA this season, had been sidelined since July 28 due to a patellar tendon injury in his right knee, which he sustained while securing the final out of an inning against the Chicago Cubs. Following his injury, Schreiber was placed on the injured list the next day. In preparation for his return, he completed two rehabilitation appearances with Double-A Northwest Arkansas last week, indicating he is ready to contribute to the Royals' bullpen once again. In a corresponding move, the Royals optioned fellow reliever Carlos Hernandez to Triple-A Omaha. Hernandez has made 15 appearances for Kansas City this season, recording an 0-1 record with a 3.45 ERA. He played a role in the Royals' recent success, pitching an inning each on Friday and Saturday as the team achieved a sweep against the Cincinnati Reds. These roster adjustments reflect the Royals' ongoing efforts to optimize their pitching staff as they face the Angels, aiming to improve their performance in the latter part of the season.
