ISLAMABAD (AP) — Bangladesh's spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed has emphasized the crucial role of senior players, particularly Shakib Al Hasan, in maintaining team focus as they prepare for an upcoming test series against Pakistan. Following significant political unrest in Bangladesh, which led to the resignation of Prime Minister Hasina Wajid and the dissolution of parliament, the team has faced disruptions in their training regimen. Mushtaq expressed confidence in the maturity and excitement of the players, highlighting the positive influence of senior members on the younger squad. The Bangladesh team arrived in Lahore four days earlier than planned to adapt to the situation, with the Pakistan Cricket Board facilitating additional training days ahead of the first test scheduled for next Wednesday in Rawalpindi. The second test will take place in Karachi on August 30. Mushtaq acknowledged the PCB's support, stating that the gesture reflects a strong relationship between the two cricket boards, which he believes will enhance the sport in both nations. Shakib, who was part of the previous government, was in Canada participating in a T20 league when the political changes occurred. Alongside Shakib, other senior players like Mushfiqur Rahim, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, and fast bowler Taskin Ahmed are also contributing positively to the team's morale and focus. Mushtaq credited the team management for fostering a supportive environment, allowing the players to concentrate on cricket amidst the ongoing challenges.
