Eight Kenyan Police Officers Arrested After Serial Killer Escapes
- Eight Kenyan police officers arrested after a suspected serial killer escapes.
- The man accused of murdering and dismembering 42 women is one of 13 detainees on the run in Nairobi.
- Authorities are intensifying efforts to capture the escaped detainees to prevent further harm.
In a significant development, Kenyan police have detained eight officers, including the station's head, in connection with the escape of 13 detainees from a Nairobi police facility. Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli announced that those found responsible for the incident will face severe legal consequences. Among the escapees is Collins Khalusha, a 33-year-old alleged serial killer, who had previously confessed to murdering 42 women over two years. The escape was discovered early Tuesday morning when the officer in charge and the canteen manager arrived to serve breakfast. Reports indicate that Khalusha and the other detainees, including Eritreans held for immigration violations, managed to flee by cutting through a security wire mesh and scaling a perimeter wall. Khalusha's last court appearance was just days prior, where he was ordered to remain in custody for further investigations into his alleged crimes. The bodies of the victims were uncovered during anti-government protests that began in June, leading to numerous reports of missing persons. Human rights organizations and the Independent Police Oversight Authority are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding these deaths. This incident follows a similar escape in which Kevin Kangethe, a murder suspect wanted in the U.S., fled from a police station earlier this year but was recaptured shortly after. In response to the latest escape, police have initiated a manhunt for the 13 missing prisoners, emphasizing their commitment to restoring order and accountability within the force.
