Story

MONESSEN, Pa. (KDKA) — The Monessen School District has introduced new guidelines aimed at addressing misconduct at school sporting events. Approved by the school board earlier this month, the policy mandates that individuals ejected from events must complete online sportsmanship classes and may face escalating penalties for repeated offenses. Under the new rules, a first-time offender, whether a student or an adult, will be required to take an online sportsmanship class. Students must complete the 'Sportsmanship' course, while adults will take the 'Positive Sports Parenting' class, both of which are offered free of charge. After completing the course, offenders must meet with school officials before being permitted to attend future events. Failure to comply will result in trespassing citations. For a second offense, individuals will face a one-year ban from all school events. Similar to the first offense, they must meet with school officials after the suspension to regain access to events. The district emphasizes that these measures are designed to promote a positive atmosphere at school functions. The most severe consequence is reserved for a third offense, which results in a lifetime ban from all school games and events. The district has stated that trespassing charges will be pursued against anyone attempting to attend events while banned. Notably, past offenses will remain on record indefinitely, regardless of the time elapsed since the last violation.
