U-Haul Holding Company, a leading mobility and storage services provider, has finalized the acquisition of a prominent skyscraper located at 20 E. Thomas Road in Midtown Phoenix, Arizona, on December 6, 2024. This 25-floor, 548,938-square-foot building is now set to become the new headquarters for U-Haul International and its subsidiaries. It is notable for being the tallest high-rise outside Downtown Phoenix, ranking behind only Chase Tower and U.S. Bank Center within the state. The decision to relocate U-Haul's headquarters from its current site in Midtown Phoenix, where the company has been based for over five decades, reflects the organization’s sustained growth and its commitment to the community. U-Haul currently employs about 1,600 team members at its Midtown Campus and has a total workforce of more than 34,000 across North America. The move signifies a strategic enhancement aimed at improving operational efficiency at the home office, which will further assist the company's dedicated field teams. This endeavor builds on U-Haul's nearly 80 years of presence in the Phoenix area, starting with its relocation to the city in 1967. The Shoen family, who founded the company, continues to steer its evolution, emphasizing a long-term investment in both workforce development and community engagement. In particular, U-Haul has seen extensive growth over the last decade, with its Midtown Campus expanding considerably to include several properties along Roanoke Avenue. The company operates a Technical Center on South Priest Drive in Tempe, where integral components such as its renowned orange trailers and other equipment are researched, designed, and manufactured. This infrastructure reflects U-Haul's significant role as a prominent employer and economic driver in the Phoenix area. The acquisition of the new headquarters represents a recommitment to the company's team members and to the broader community, embedding their dedication into the fabric of Midtown Phoenix for the coming decades. Joe Shoen, the Chairman of U-Haul Holding Company, stressed the importance of this acquisition in enhancing operational capabilities and solidifying their position as an industry leader. The U-Haul Tower, as the building will now be known, visually symbolizes both the growth of the company and its long-standing history in Arizona. This pivotal moment not only marks a milestone in U-Haul’s corporate journey but also speaks volumes about their vision for the future—both for their workforce and their customers—reinforcing their commitment to service innovations and improvements.
