- Match to be played without fans due to stadium construction work.
- Fans disappointed as they will not be able to attend the match.
ISLAMABAD (AP) — The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that the second cricket test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, scheduled to begin on August 30 in Karachi, will be held without spectators. This decision comes as the National Bank Stadium undergoes renovations in preparation for the upcoming Champions Trophy, set to commence on February 19, 2024. The PCB initiated the renovation project earlier this month, aiming to enhance the stadium's facilities and overall experience for fans. In light of the construction work, the board has suspended ticket sales for the Karachi test match effective immediately. Fans who have already purchased tickets will be fully refunded, ensuring that their financial interests are protected. In a statement, the PCB emphasized that the health and safety of fans is their top priority. After evaluating various options, the board concluded that hosting the match in an empty stadium was the safest decision. This move reflects a commitment to maintaining safety standards while also preparing for future events. The first test match between the two teams will take place in Rawalpindi, starting on August 21. The PCB's efforts to improve the stadium are part of a broader initiative to host the Champions Trophy, marking the first ICC event in Pakistan since the 1996 World Cup, highlighting the significance of this renovation project for the country's cricketing landscape.
