Southampton Football Club is on the verge of finalizing the signing of striker Cameron Archer from Aston Villa. The two clubs have reportedly agreed on a deal valued at £15 million, with an additional £2 million in potential add-ons. Archer, 22, is set to undergo a medical examination before officially joining the team at St Mary’s Stadium. Archer returned to Aston Villa this summer following a loan spell at Sheffield United, where he scored four goals in 32 appearances last season. His previous loan at Middlesbrough was more fruitful, netting 11 goals in just 23 games during the latter half of the 2022-23 season. The young striker has also had stints at Preston North End and Solihull Moors, showcasing his potential across various levels of competition. In addition to Archer, Southampton is reportedly in advanced negotiations to secure Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu on loan. However, this deal will not include a purchase option, as Chelsea considers the 20-year-old a key part of their future plans. Southampton has been active in the transfer market, having already signed several players, including Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Flynn Downes, and Adam Lallana, among others. As the new season approaches, Villa will kick off their campaign against West Ham United, while Southampton faces Newcastle United earlier on the same day.
