- The cottage was a constructed set rather than an actual house, as director Nancy Meyers could not find a suitable location.
- Fans were shocked to learn the truth behind the iconic cottage that has been admired since the film's release.
In a recent appearance on BBC Radio 2, Jude Law shared behind-the-scenes insights about the 2006 holiday film The Holiday. The film, directed by Nancy Meyers, features a story of two women who swap homes to escape their romantic issues. Law portrayed the role of Kate Winslet's brother and Cameron Diaz's love interest. During the segment, Law disclosed that the famous cottage seen in the film was not an actual home. Instead, it was an exterior built in a field after the director struggled to find a suitable location. Law's revelations shocked listeners, particularly as the cottage had captured the admiration of fans, with one expressing a desire to stay there through Airbnb. Although the cottage is not real, its allure led to the listing of a similar property by Jon Bromley and Cressida, who later became aware of its significance when tourists started taking pictures of their home. Their property was made available for rental on Airbnb for £295 a night, though it was removed from the platform as of November 2024.
