Bristol Residents Suffer from Flyover Nuisance

Residents living beneath the M32 and M5 flyovers in Bristol have voiced their frustrations regarding the constant noise and disruption caused by heavy traffic. Many report that the incessant sound of lorries makes it difficult to enjoy their homes, with one resident lamenting, "We can't sit in the garden because you can hear it all day." The noise pollution has become a significant issue, affecting their quality of life and even blocking sunlight from their homes. Philip Jacobs, an 84-year-old resident of Avonmouth, has lived in the area since childhood and recalls the construction of the M5 bridge. While he acknowledges the noise, he has grown accustomed to it over the years, stating, "We don't take any notice of it anymore." However, not all residents share his level of acceptance, as some express a desire to escape the relentless disturbances. Kelly, a 40-year-old local, highlighted safety concerns, noting that projectiles have been thrown from the bridge, posing risks to children playing nearby. She emphasized that the noise is a primary reason she would consider relocating, underscoring the impact of the environment on family life. Despite the challenges, some residents have adapted to their surroundings, with one stating, "Living here for twenty years, I don't have a problem with it." Yet, the struggle to mitigate noise and maintain a peaceful home life remains a pressing concern for many in the community.
