Police from Many Agencies at Minnesota State Fair

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. — As the Minnesota State Fair welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors, officials are prioritizing safety through a comprehensive security strategy. Police Chief Knafla emphasized the importance of a visible law enforcement presence, stating that officers engage with the public, assist with medical emergencies, and help reunite lost children with their families. The fair's security includes both uniformed and undercover officers from various agencies, ensuring a robust response to any incidents. To bolster safety, the fair has implemented several physical security enhancements. Attendees will encounter metal detectors and bag checks at the entrances, while the perimeter has been fortified with higher fences, barbed wire, and an increased number of surveillance cameras and improved lighting. These measures aim to deter potential threats and ensure a secure environment for all visitors. In addition to on-site security, St. Paul police are actively managing traffic and conducting patrols in the surrounding areas. They are working closely with local residents and the Community Ambassadors, a group dedicated to preventing violence among youth. Randy Freeman, an Ambassador, highlighted their mission to foster a peaceful atmosphere, reminding young people that the fair is a community and family event. With around 50 Community Ambassadors patrolling the neighborhood from 4 p.m. to midnight daily, the collaborative efforts between law enforcement and community groups aim to create a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone attending the fair.
