TORONTO (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds have announced the promotion of right-hander Julian Aguiar from Triple-A Louisville, marking his major league debut as he is set to start against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night. Aguiar, 23, steps in for injured All-Star Hunter Greene, who has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a sore elbow. Greene, who boasts a 9-4 record and a 2.83 ERA this season, previously underwent Tommy John surgery in 2019. Aguiar, ranked as the Reds' 11th-best prospect by Major League Baseball, has shown promise in the minors, finishing his Triple-A season with a 5-4 record and a 3.79 ERA over 22 starts. The right-hander was selected in the 12th round of the 2021 draft and has been working his way up through the Reds' farm system. In addition to Aguiar's promotion, the Reds have made further roster adjustments. Right-hander Christian Roa has been recalled from Louisville but has been placed on the 60-day injured list due to a sprained right shoulder. Meanwhile, Casey Legumina has been optioned back to Triple-A following the team's recent loss to the Kansas City Royals. As the Reds navigate injuries to key players, Aguiar's debut represents a significant opportunity for the young pitcher to showcase his talent at the major league level.
