FORT WORTH – A candlelight vigil is set for Wednesday evening to pay tribute to Sgt. Billy Randolph, a dedicated Fort Worth police officer who tragically lost his life on Monday while responding to a fuel spill on Interstate 35W. The vigil will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Worth Police Department's South Patrol Division, located at 3501 W. Risinger Road. Attendees are advised that parking will be available at the nearby Vivian J. Lincoln Library and Crowley Middle School. In a somber procession on Tuesday morning, Fort Worth police escorted Randolph's body from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office to Mount Olivet Funeral Home. This followed a heartfelt gathering the previous day, where hundreds of officers paid their respects at John Peter Smith Hospital shortly after Randolph's passing. The incident that led to Randolph's death occurred when he was standing outside his vehicle at the scene of the fuel spill. A vehicle, driven by 25-year-old De Aujalae Evans, entered the scene in the wrong direction and struck him. Evans has since been arrested in connection with the incident. Sgt. Randolph served the Fort Worth Police Department for an impressive 29 years, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service. Funeral services for the fallen officer are currently being organized as the community mourns his loss.
