Tanzania Creates Village with 3D Printing

Hope Village is set to become a pioneering project in Tanzania, featuring nearly 50 planned buildings that will include affordable housing, agricultural areas, and recreational facilities. Central to this initiative is a 3D-printed community center designed to function as a school hall and cafeteria during the week, while also serving as a venue for community events on weekends. The architects aim to utilize locally sourced earth for construction, overcoming traditional limitations of rammed earth by creating ventilated walls that allow natural light. The innovative design incorporates a non-load-bearing wall structure reinforced with wire mesh, supported by a cantilevered roof made from locally sourced timber. This roof, which will be constructed on the ground and then raised, is designed to protect the walls from rain erosion, drawing inspiration from historical architectural feats like the Pantheon in Rome.
