Man accused of murdering ex-wife seeks deal to avoid life sentence

Two days later, her body was discovered near Little River Road and Princes Freeway, approximately 44 kilometers south-west of Melbourne's central business district. The police arrested her ex-husband, Allen Keys, 67, at Melbourne Airport as he attempted to flee to Bali. He was subsequently charged with her murder. Prior to her death, Ms. Lasrini had been encouraged by friends to seek family violence services following a tumultuous and public separation from Keys. Reports indicate that Keys had entered a new relationship with an Indonesian woman around the time of the murder. In the lead-up to the tragic event, he made derogatory comments about Western women on social media, expressing a preference for relationships with Asian women. On April 1, the day before Ms. Lasrini went missing, Keys posted images and videos with another Balinese woman, captioning them with phrases like 'New girl new life.'

The court proceedings have revealed that Keys is seeking a deal to avoid a potential life sentence, possibly by pleading guilty to a lesser charge such as manslaughter. If the Crown rejects this proposal, a full murder trial is expected to take place at the Supreme Court of Victoria in the following year.
