Two California college towns named among America's most beautiful

House Beautiful, a national home and lifestyle magazine, recently released a list of the 11 most beautiful college towns in the United States, and two California destinations made the cut. The list, which was unveiled this week, highlights towns that combine natural beauty with a laid-back atmosphere, as well as amenities like shops, coffee joints, restaurants, and nightlife that keep students engaged beyond their studies. Santa Barbara, home to the University of California, Santa Barbara, ranked fourth, while Santa Cruz, home to the University of California, Santa Cruz, came in seventh. The recognition underscores the appeal of these coastal communities as both academic hubs and tourist destinations.

Santa Barbara, located roughly 90 miles northwest of Los Angeles, is known for its picture-perfect combination of mountains and ocean. The city's waterfront is lined with palm trees, and its landscape is dominated by red-tile roofs and Spanish Colonial architecture. The mild coastal climate allows residents and students to easily transition between beach activities and hiking trails.
