Bonnie Tyler's coffin returns to Wales as fans sing her hit

Bonnie Tyler, the Welsh singer known for her husky voice and hits like "Total Eclipse of the Heart," died on July 8, 2026, in a hospital in Portugal. She was 75. Her death came months after she had been placed in an induced coma following emergency intestinal surgery in May 2026. Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, grew up in a council house in Neath, Wales, and was survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Robert Sullivan.

Tyler's family invited donations to two charities she supported: Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales and Cerebral Palsy Cymru. The singer was remembered by friends and fans as a generous and down-to-earth person who never forgot her Swansea roots. She was known for hosting fabulous Christmas parties in the Mumbles, where she would perform for locals and celebrities alike. Her music career included hits such as "Holding Out for a Hero," "It's a Heartache," and "If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)." She represented the UK in the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest with "Believe in Me," finishing 19th. Her album "Faster Than the Speed of Night" was her only UK number one album, and she received Grammy nominations for her work.
