Philly artist paints LeBron James mural in Chinatown

Philadelphia artist Chenlin Cai has completed a new mural in the city's Chinatown that depicts LeBron James, who signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency this summer, receiving an assist for a slam dunk from historical figure William Penn. Cai, who immigrated from China to Philadelphia in 2014, told ESPN that he wanted to blend the city's history with Asian culture and the 76ers' new superstar, saying, "I [wanted] to make this mural really Asian, really LeBron James, really Philadelphia. It's just kind of three factors put together."

Cai's primary goal for the mural is to attract more visitors to Chinatown, which he hopes will bring more business opportunities and positive effects to the neighborhood. He stated, "If this mural can bring more foot traffic, visitors, it can bring more business opportunity to Chinatown, right? And it can make Chinatown better. I wanted to bring Chinatown some positive effect, as well as I want LeBron James, he can bring a bigger effect than mine." The mural is part of a series of murals around Philadelphia that have featured James since his signing, reflecting the excitement surrounding his arrival.
