Two men arrested after 180 pounds of cocaine seized in Pittsburgh

In the United States, a significant drug trafficking operation was disrupted in the Pittsburgh area, leading to the arrest of two men, Darnell Rhinehart and Lamar Lewis. On a Monday night, law enforcement officials seized approximately 180 pounds of cocaine, equivalent to 80 kilograms, as part of a large-scale investigation. The FBI's Pittsburgh division monitored Rhinehart through video surveillance, capturing him loading multiple cardboard boxes from a tractor-trailer into his vehicle in a matter of minutes. This swift operation raised suspicions and prompted further investigation.

Later that day, authorities tracked Rhinehart to a local bar, where they observed Lamar Lewis parking his pickup truck nearby. Lewis was seen taking four cardboard boxes from Rhinehart's vehicle and placing a heavy bag inside it before leaving the scene. A subsequent traffic stop on Lewis' vehicle revealed 50 kilograms of cocaine and a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol, which was confirmed to be stolen. This discovery underscored the serious nature of the charges against both men.

The investigation continued as authorities followed Rhinehart, who was later seen picking up a red backpack from a residence. He entered a bar with the backpack but left without it. When law enforcement apprehended Rhinehart, they discovered 5 kilograms of cocaine inside the backpack. Further searches at locations linked to Rhinehart yielded an additional 35 kilograms of cocaine, large sums of cash, and a shotgun. The scale of the operation highlighted the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in combating drug trafficking and the associated violence.

FBI Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge Richard Evanchec emphasized the significance of the seizure, stating that taking away such a large quantity of cocaine disrupts the financial power of international criminal organizations. He noted that drug trafficking is not a victimless crime, as it perpetuates violence and fear within communities. The FBI, along with its partners, remains committed to utilizing all available resources to eliminate these dangerous narcotics from the streets, aiming to protect the public from the devastating effects of drug abuse and trafficking.
