Russia and Ukraine trade deadly strikes as drones target Moscow

The drones caused a fire at a Wildberries warehouse in the Koledino Industrial Park in Podolsk, a suburb of Moscow, as reported by regional governor Andrei Vorobyov. This attack is part of a broader Ukrainian strategy that has, since mid-July, targeted approximately 20 Wildberries warehouses and buildings across Russia. Ukraine has justified these strikes as a response to Russia's relentless bombardment of Ukrainian towns and infrastructure. President Zelensky has stated that Ukraine's increasing attacks deep inside Russia, including on refineries and warehouses, aim to undermine Russia's war economy and its ability to sustain the invasion.

The conflict also spilled over into eastern Europe, with a Spanish NATO F-18 fighter jet shooting down a drone that breached Romanian airspace near the border with Ukraine and Moldova. This incident marks the second time in a week that a drone was shot down in Latvian airspace, according to Latvia's defense ministry. Romania had previously shot down three drones on three consecutive days. These events highlight the growing risk of the war expanding beyond Ukraine's borders, as drones and missiles increasingly cross into NATO territory.
