Seven injured in Chicago weekend shootings, police report

Over the weekend, Chicago experienced a series of shootings that left at least seven people injured, according to the Chicago Police Department (CPD). The incidents occurred between Friday evening and Saturday night, with victims ranging in age from 16 to 43. The first shooting took place on Friday at approximately 7:13 p.m. in the 6200 block of West 53rd Street. A 42-year-old man became involved in an argument with an unknown man and woman who were inside a vehicle. When the victim approached the vehicle, the unknown man exited and fired shots, striking the victim in the abdomen. The victim was transported to Christ Hospital in fair condition. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and the shooter, who was a valid Concealed Carry License (CCL) and Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card holder, cooperated with the investigation. No charges were filed in this incident.

On Saturday, multiple shootings occurred. At 12:01 a.m., in the 3800 block of West Hirsch Street, a 16-year-old boy was a passenger in a vehicle when an unknown gunman standing on the street fired in his direction. The victim was hit in the right flank and self-transported to Humboldt Park Health, later transferred to Stroger Hospital in good condition. At 1:47 p.m., in the 8000 block of South Ingleside Avenue, a 31-year-old man was on the sidewalk when he was shot in the left flank by an unknown person. He was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition. Around 7:17 p.m., in the 8500 block of South Sangamon Street, a group of four individuals—a 43-year-old male, a 34-year-old male, a 32-year-old female, and a male of unknown age—were on the sidewalk when an unknown vehicle pulled up alongside them. Multiple occupants fired shots at the group. The 43-year-old was hit in the left leg and taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition. The 34-year-old was hit in the right leg and declined medical attention. The 32-year-old woman was grazed in the left arm and also declined medical attention. The third man was hit in the abdomen and taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition.

These shootings reflect a broader pattern of gun violence in Chicago, which has seen persistent challenges with firearm-related incidents. The incidents occurred in various neighborhoods, including West Elsdon, Humboldt Park, Greater Grand Crossing, and Auburn Gresham.
