6-year-old girl donates piggy bank to Colombian earthquake victims

A 6-year-old Colombian girl, Nawal Victoria Roa, captured national attention after donating her piggy bank to help victims of a powerful earthquake that struck the country on Monday. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.4, killed more than 280 people and injured at least 4,000, impacting over 100,000 individuals, primarily in the regions of Chocó and Valle del Cauca. The influencer expressed surprise at the can being absolutely filled, noting that the money could buy many things. The girl's mother, Karen Villanova, later explained that Nawal Victoria and her sister typically fill their piggy banks each December to buy gifts for less fortunate children, but they were unable to do so last year due to Karen's surgery recovery. Nawal Victoria had been saving for a new bicycle, but after the earthquake, she decided to give her savings to those in need. The video of her donation went viral, with many TikTok users praising her generosity and upbringing. Karen was overwhelmed by the public's response, stating that they had not sought recognition but simply wanted to help. She expressed hope that the act would inspire others to sow love and generosity in their children. Meanwhile, search and rescue teams continued to work desperately to locate hundreds of missing victims. President Abelardo de la Espriella visited Chocó, the epicenter, on Friday, after three tremors were registered, and pledged to mobilize the full capacity of the state to overcome the situation. Among the victims were two triplets, including 23-year-old Isabella Saavedra, whose body was recovered on Thursday. Her parents, uncle, and sister Sofía were also killed, while her other sister Ana María survived with injuries and underwent surgery for a fractured pelvis.
