Taylor Farms recalls jalapeño products linked to salmonella outbreak

In the United States, Taylor Farms has initiated a recall of over a dozen products containing jalapeños due to a salmonella outbreak that has affected 345 individuals across 27 states. This recall is part of a broader response to food safety concerns, particularly as the company has been linked to a significant cyclosporiasis outbreak as well. The recalled products include various dips, salsas, and guacamole sold at major grocery chains such as Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Kroger. The affected items have a 'Best If Used By' date extending to August 16, 2026, and were distributed across 26 states including Alabama, Florida, and Texas. The USDA has also indicated that grocery stores are removing meat products that contain jalapeños as a precautionary measure. Walmart has stated that safety is a top priority and they are working closely with suppliers to ensure the removal of impacted products from their stores. The jalapeños in question were sourced from Coast Citrus Distributors, which has been traced back to the salmonella outbreak. The FDA has confirmed that these jalapeños originated from Sinaloa, Mexico. In response to the outbreak, Taylor Fresh Foods, a subsidiary of Taylor Farms, has ceased sourcing from this particular farmer and will be utilizing alternative suppliers moving forward. Despite the recall, Taylor Fresh Foods has reported no known illnesses linked to their jalapeño products. Meanwhile, the FDA has also noted an expansion of a separate cyclosporiasis outbreak associated with Taylor Farms, which has included potentially contaminated iceberg lettuce distributed to Subway locations in July. Subway has not provided any comments regarding this situation.
