Producer James Ford creates album from hospital bed after leukaemia diagnosis

James Ford, a renowned British music producer known for his work with Arctic Monkeys, Pet Shop Boys, and Pulp, faced a life-threatening health crisis in the past year. After turning 46, he was struck by a severe illness that initially presented as a persistent flu-like fever. His condition deteriorated to the point where he was bedridden, unable to get up from his sofa, and his blood samples had to be sent to London for analysis, delaying a diagnosis. During this period, he felt he might die, but he also reflected on his life with a sense of fulfillment, acknowledging his family, career, and experiences. Eventually, he was diagnosed with leukaemia and was told he needed to go to a cancer ward. This diagnosis marked a turning point, and despite the trauma, he channeled his experience into creativity. In just two weeks, he wrote and recorded his new album, "Lost in Another World," which he describes as stunning. The album serves as a personal artifact that transports him back to the time of his illness, and he initially found it difficult to listen to it again. The experience has profoundly changed his perspective on life, making him recognize the fragility of existence and the importance of gratitude, which he had previously read about but never truly internalized. He has since adopted a renewed work-life balance, emphasizing the value of the important people and things in his life. The album is now released, and he is scheduled to perform at Rough Trade East in London on August 17 and at the Horse Hospital in London on September 17.
