On Sunday, September 20, 2026, 18 suspects arrested in the July 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse were extradited from Haiti to the United States. The suspects, including Colombian soldiers and former Haitian officials, will face trial in Florida, according to U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quiñones. The extradition marks a major step in the U.S. pursuit of accountability, with 30 people indicted in the case. The Haitian judicial process had been stalled by gang violence and judicial resignations. In May, four men were convicted in Florida for their roles in the plot, and several others have pleaded guilty.
