Cooluli recalls 250,000 minifridges after fire reports

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of approximately 250,000 Cooluli minifridges sold on Amazon and Cooluli.com. The recall was prompted by at least 19 reports of the appliances smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating, or catching fire, which posed fire and burn hazards to consumers. The affected units are 10-liter and 15-liter models with an internal power supply and two power input ports (AC and DC) on the back, rather than a single DC port. The recall covers batch numbers 1535 through 1545 and 1200000 through 1202080, and the model and batch numbers can be found on a label inside the minifridge door. The minifridges were sold in various colors and designs, with "Cooluli" printed on the front, and were priced between $80 and $120. Cooluli received reports of property damage exceeding $80,000 and one consumer reported a smoke inhalation injury. The CPSC urged consumers to stop using the recalled minifridges immediately and to contact Cooluli for a free replacement power cord. Consumers are instructed to enter their model and batch numbers on Cooluli's recall website to determine if their unit is affected. Those with recalled units must unplug the minifridge, cut the power cord, and submit photos showing the model and batch numbers. Cooluli will then provide a replacement DC power cord and a permanent sticker to cover the AC port. The recall was initiated after the company received multiple incident reports, and the CPSC's warning highlights the potential dangers of electrical malfunctions in household appliances. The affected products were sold from January 2019 through October 2024, and the recall is a significant step to mitigate the risk of fires and injuries.
