Chrysler recalls 1.27 million Ram pickups over serious seat belt issue

This recall encompasses model-year vehicles from 2019 to 2026, specifically those produced between February 17, 2018, and April 27, 2026. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the issue arises from improper installation of the seat belt buckle anchors, which could lead to non-compliance with federal safety standards. Chrysler estimates that only about 0.1% of the recalled vehicles may actually have the defect, indicating that the majority of the vehicles are likely safe.

The NHTSA has emphasized that the assembly issue, rather than a defective component, is the root cause of the recall. The improper installation of the seat belt buckle anchors could result in reduced load management during certain driving conditions or crashes, potentially increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. As a precaution, Chrysler has decided to take action to ensure the safety of its customers and their passengers.

Dealers have been instructed to inspect the second-row seat belt buckle anchors and, if necessary, properly attach them to the vehicle's body structure at no cost to the owners. Notifications to dealers began on August 6, 2026, with owner notifications set to commence on August 18, 2026.
