Bus tour opens Hungary's hidden vineyards to wine lovers

In Hungary, a new hop-on, hop-off bus tour has been launched in Balatonfüred, a picturesque spa town known for its scenic views and wine culture. The tour, which began operating recently, departs from Balatonfüred station every two hours starting at 11 am, allowing visitors to explore the region's lesser-known wineries. The bus is a vintage 1984 DAF model, painted in a vibrant green, providing a unique experience as it travels along the shores of Lake Balaton, the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe. The tour aims to promote local wines, which are often overlooked in the tourism sector, with only about one-third of Hungary's wine being exported. Many of the wineries featured on the tour are family-owned and have only recently opened their doors to visitors, offering a personal touch and hospitality that enhances the tasting experience. Guests can visit up to four wineries during the tour, enjoying charcuterie platters and engaging with the charismatic owners, who share their passion for winemaking. The initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize the region's wine tourism, encouraging new generations to appreciate Hungary's rich viticultural heritage.
