This finding is particularly noteworthy as PACs are known to be a predictor of atrial fibrillation, a serious heart rhythm disorder that can lead to complications such as blood clots and strokes. However, the study's senior author, Gregory Marcus, cautioned that the findings should not be interpreted as a definitive endorsement of cannabis for cardiovascular health. He emphasized that while the study suggests a potential link between cannabis use and reduced heart rhythm issues, the overall health effects of inhaled cannabis may still be negative. In fact, a separate study published in 2024 indicated that frequent cannabis use could increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
