MAFS experts film 2027 season without late Mel Schilling

The 2027 season of Married At First Sight is currently in production, with experts John Aiken and Alessandra Rampolla returning to the panel following the death of their longtime colleague Mel Schilling. Schilling, who had been a central figure on the show for many years, passed away, leaving a significant void in the team. Aiken described the experience of filming without her as bittersweet, acknowledging the emotional weight of continuing the series in her absence. He emphasized that despite the loss, the team remains committed to carrying on the show's legacy, stating that they are flying the Married At First Sight flag. Rampolla echoed his sentiments, noting that the atmosphere behind the scenes has changed considerably this year, but she expressed enthusiasm for the creative process of building something new. The production is still in its early stages, and the experts are already observing the new participants as they navigate the initial challenges of the experiment. Aiken revealed that the contestants are being tested on their ability to open up and let someone in, rather than falling back on old patterns that have hindered their past relationships. Rampolla added that the true personalities of the participants have not yet fully emerged, which is typical at this stage, and the excitement lies in not knowing who will ultimately succeed in finding love. The upcoming season is also set to introduce a new relationship expert, Brigitte Zonta, also known as Dr Lurve, who is reportedly joining the panel, although Channel Nine has not yet made an official announcement. This addition comes as the show aims to return to its original focus on relationships, following increased scrutiny of reality-dating formats and controversies from recent seasons. However, insiders have cautioned that the show will not become any less dramatic, and the season will feature the first female same-sex couple since 2020, as well as a former Bachelorette contestant returning to television after more than a decade. The participants underwent extensive background checks, social-media audits, reference checks, and psychological assessments before being approved for the experiment. Married At First Sight is scheduled to return to Channel Nine in 2027.
