Greg Lynn to Testify as Sole Defence Witness in Double Murder Trial

A former Jetstar pilot, Gregory Stuart Lynn, is accused of killing two elderly campers in 2020. He is going to testify in court on Thursday. The campers, Russell Hill and Carol Clay, were found dead at a remote camping site in the Wonnangatta Valley. Lynn has pleaded not guilty to the murders. The prosecution finished presenting their case on Wednesday. They won't bring more witnesses. Detective Sergeant Brett Florence mentioned that a TV show about Hill and Clay's disappearance helped gather information from the public. Lynn's wife noticed similarities between their car and one shown on the program. The prosecution claims Lynn killed Hill and Clay intentionally, but they don't know why. They believe Hill was killed first, and then Clay was shot in the head. Lynn says there was a struggle over a shotgun, leading to Clay's death. Hill had stopped seeing Clay in 2006 after being given an ultimatum by a neighbor. Lynn told the police that he panicked after the incident. He tried to make decisions quickly, considering the consequences. He cleaned the crime scene and disposed of the bodies to avoid being linked to the deaths. Lynn explained his actions during a police interview. Lynn described a confrontation with Hill that led to Clay's death. He said he tried to disarm Hill, but the shotgun accidentally went off, killing Clay. Lynn then had a physical altercation with Hill, resulting in Hill's death. He admitted to trying to cover up the incident. At the end of the interview, Lynn was informed that he would be charged with the murders. Lynn claimed that Hill had threatened to go to the police before the altercation. Lynn tried to explain his actions to the police during the interview.
