Nigerian court sets October 2026 date for opposition leader's cyberbullying trial

On Monday, September 28, 2026, the Federal High Court in Abuja, Nigeria, adjourned the cyberbullying trial of Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, to October 2, 2026, for continuation of his defense. The case stems from Sowore's August 2025 social media posts calling President Bola Tinubu a 'criminal' and accusing him of lying about corruption. The Department of State Services brought the charges after Sowore refused to delete the posts. During the hearing, Sowore's lawyer mentioned social media reports of a possible long adjournment, but the DSS counsel said he was ready to proceed. The judge set the new date.
