Taiwan's defense minister says U.S. arms sales continue despite stalled $14 billion package

Taiwan's Defense Minister Wellington Koo said Tuesday that existing U.S. arms sales to Taiwan remain unchanged and that talks continue, but a record $14 billion arms package remains stalled. The remarks come amid concerns that President Trump could halt sales. China pressed Washington to stop the sales after a May summit between Trump and Xi Jinping. Koo also said 66 F16-V fighter jets are ready for delivery, delayed from 2024. U.S. arms sales to Taiwan are a major source of tension between Beijing and Washington, as China claims Taiwan as its territory.
