Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev announces liberation of settlements in Jabrayil district during Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

On October 4, 2020, during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev announced the liberation of several settlements in the Jabrayil district. This was part of a counter-offensive called 'Iron Fist' that began on September 27, 2020, after Armenia launched a military attack. In an interview with Al Arabiya TV, Aliyev said that for 27 years, negotiations had failed to return occupied territories, and Azerbaijan was now resolving the issue on its own. He demanded Armenia commit to a withdrawal timetable and retract its claim that 'Karabakh is Armenia'. The liberation allowed residents to return to the village of Jojug Marjanly.
