Honda Motor to test wireless charging for moving trucks on Japanese highway

On October 5, 2026, Japanese automaker Honda Motor announced it has developed technology to wirelessly charge electric vehicles, including large trucks, while they are being driven. The company plans to test the system on a Japanese highway in collaboration with construction firm Taisei and road builder Taisei Rotec, with testing expected to begin in the financial year starting April 2027 or later. The system transfers electricity from road-embedded charging units to moving vehicles, potentially reducing charging stops. A Honda engineer declined to comment on costs compared to conventional charging networks, saying economic viability needs assessment.
