Turkey's electricity demand surges at record pace among IEA members

Turkey's electricity demand has surged at an average annual rate of 5% from 2005 to 2024, driven by economic growth in the industrial and services sectors. Residential consumption increased by 14% from 2023 to 2024, largely due to higher use of air conditioning and electrical appliances. The IEA projects that electricity consumption could reach 510 terawatt-hours by 2035, with renewable sources expected to play a larger role in meeting this demand.
