China rejects Anthropic CEO's call for US AI restrictions

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday rejected a call from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei for the US to curb China's AI development, urging global cooperation instead. Amodei had warned of a Chinese AI lead and proposed continued chip export restrictions. The exchange comes ahead of a planned US-China summit on September 24, where AI governance is expected to be discussed. China's state media dismissed Amodei's essay as a Cold War playbook, while the US had earlier accused Chinese developers of malicious AI model distillation.
