Cruise ship becomes floating home for Asian Games athletes in Japan

In Nagoya, Japan, the Italian cruise ship Costa Serena received its official welcome on Tuesday at Kinjo Pier, where it will house up to 5,000 athletes and officials during the Asian Games. The 16-day games open Saturday and run through October 4. Without a dedicated athletes' village, organizers are using the cruise ship, hotels, and converted containers to accommodate more than 11,000 athletes. Captain Federico Sias said the ship becomes a home for athletes from across Asia. The number of athletes could match the 12,000 who participated in the 2022 Hangzhou games.
