President Trump approves firing squad execution of Nidal Hasan for 2009 Fort Hood shooting in Texas
On October 5, 2026, the Pentagon announced that President Donald Trump approved the execution by firing squad of Nidal Hasan, a former U.S. Army psychiatrist convicted for the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas. The shooting killed 13 people and wounded 32 others. Hasan was sentenced to death in 2013. This will be the first military execution in the U.S. since 1961. The time and place of the execution have not yet been announced, but Army policy requires it to occur within 150 days of approval.
