Nigerian Court of Appeal to Hear SERAP's Appeal Against N101 Million Defamation Ruling

The Court of Appeal in Abuja, Nigeria, has scheduled a hearing for Friday in the appeal filed by SERAP against a defamation judgment. In May, a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory awarded N101 million in damages and costs against SERAP and its Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, for defaming two DSS officials, Sarah John and Gabriel Ogundele, through a false publication. The lower court found that the publication falsely claimed the officials invaded SERAP's office and harassed staff. The appeal hearing is set for Friday.
