Peter V'landys appointed as first executive chairman of Australia's National Rugby League

Peter V'landys, a veteran Australian sports administrator, has been appointed as the first executive chairman of the National Rugby League (NRL), the country's premier rugby league competition. The appointment, announced on Thursday, merges the roles of ARL Commission chairman and NRL chief executive, making V'landys the most powerful figure in the sport. He resigned as Racing NSW chief executive the same day, ending a 22-year tenure. V'landys, who has led the NRL since 2019, aims to expand the league internationally, with plans for games in Hong Kong and Japan by 2028.
