FICO survey finds AI returns meet expectations but leaders lack confidence in explaining decisions

A new FICO survey of 1,004 senior data, analytics and AI leaders, mostly in North America, found that 85.1 percent said AI met or exceeded their initial ROI expectations. However, only 5.2 percent were very confident explaining AI-driven decisions to regulators and customers, and AI was used in just 28.5 percent of customer-impacting decisions. The survey, "State of Responsible AI 2026," highlights a gap between AI's financial success and explainability, with experts noting the need for better governance and understanding of AI decision-making.
