In Brazil's 2026 elections, transgender lawmaker Erika Hilton, of the left-wing PSOL party, was reelected to the federal Chamber of Deputies with 1,596,472 votes, the highest ever for a woman in the country's congressional history. The 33-year-old, representing São Paulo state, surpassed the previous record set by Joice Hasselmann in 2018. Hilton's vote total was second only to Lucas Pavanato of the far-right PL party. She has been a prominent advocate for transgender rights and supports President Lula's proposal to reduce the workweek to 40 hours.
